I mainly use it for my laptop to plug my full 3 monitor work space with keyboard webcam and everything using just the usbc cable I would have preferred that it included a DC adapter but besides that I'm really happy with it

I bought this docking station after I realized my recent purchase of a drawing tablet was going to make the 2 USBc ports on my MBA feel even more cramped than they already were. With a slew of different connection points that I had slowly phased out over my years as an Apple customer, it felt like the right kind of overkill now that I had a real peripheral to hook up.

If there were detailed instructions as to what should go where, I didn’t see them. Fortunately the dock has some fairly common sense symbols printed on the ports. After a few attempts I had power going to my laptop, my tablet connected, and my phone charging.

I probably would’ve been satisfied with this arrangement if I could make the dock sit under the stand (which is really nice btw) without bending the cables, however I couldn’t find an orientation with the included usb c to c cable that allowed it to power the laptop and rest on the magnetic base without using a longer cable.

With the dock sitting out on the table away from laptop stand and the beginnings of a tangle of cables forming, I soon realized that this thing might have been total overkill. Why did I need my phone plugged into the laptop while I was drawing??

But the stand was really nice, so I decided to give it a minute to see if I warmed up to it.

Then Helene hit WNC last week and we’ve had no power, internet, cell, or water. The first days were something else, no news of any kind except the horror stories from the survivors of our worst-impacted communities and an ever increasing sense of panic. I am very lucky in this situation- my home is fine. My days were spent trying to make sense of everything with my community and finding resources, including power. With every traffic and street light out in the city, a sunset to sunrise curfew was put into effect.

Enter this docking station. It’s night time. I’m home. The entire city is dark. It’s like 8pm. I have a full laptop charge, a jumper pack for my car from like 2006 (it has two USB ports- fancy back then!) and a little USB dvd player from 2016.

Because of this docking station I was able to connect the backup car battery and the DVD player to my laptop (with its two brand new usb Cs) and get through the dark nights without power with just a little sense of comfort and normalcy. Literally without it to connect these old devices to my laptop I would have been sitting alone in the dark waiting to fall asleep for like a week. This thing gave me back Frasier and King of the Hill in a time of uncertainty and tragedy, and for that it will always have a place in my heart. Overkill nothing, it’s just right!
