But they do look neat, and I bet makers will do some awesome things with these once JSAUX releases its promised open-source code.
These faceplates completely changed how I view the Steam Machine. I knew that changing the plates would be interesting, but I didn’t expect it to change the entire vibe of the machine when looking at it.
The DIY Inkterface costs $104.50 in components alone, not including the cost of 3D-printing the housing. In that sense, JSAUX’s $100 E-Ink screen is... good value.
Choose Your Display Style
Two distinct ways to personalize the front of your Steam Machine.
Preset E-Ink Modes for Your Setup
Choose a preset e-ink display mode for the information you want to keep in view. Display weather, time, calendar, performance, game time, or a combined overview on your Steam Machine front panel.
Your Favorite Images, Always On
Upload photos of family, friends, favorite people, characters, pixel art, or anything you love. Turn your E-Ink Panel into a personal display that’s uniquely yours.
500mAh Battery, Up to 22 Days of Runtime
With its built-in 500mAh battery, the E-Ink Panel can deliver up to 22 days of runtime based on one display refresh per minute (1,440 refreshes per day). The E-Ink display itself consumes virtually no power to maintain a static image, with power primarily used when refreshing or updating content.
