Jsaux' MagCool OmniGrip looks like a basic iPhone smartphone handle for content creation - however, it is also rated to back the device up with extra storage, power and even lighting.
The grip includes an M.2 SSD slot supporting up to 1TB at 10 Gbps, which is essential for ProRes since the large video files need plenty of storage and processing power.

Is the MagCool OmniGrip compatible with my phone?
MagCool OmniGrip is primarily designed for iPhones with ProRes capabilities but is also compatible with all smartphones (except flip phones).
- MagCool OmniGrip is MagSafe-compatible, which means it works with iPhone 12 series or later.
- For non-MagSafe devices, please use a Magnetic Sticker in order to use the MagCool OmniGrip. It is included per package.

Can I use the MagCool OmniGrip with a phone case?
Yes! The MagCool OmniGrip works best with MagSafe-compatible cases.
For other phone cases, where magnetic strength may be reduced, you can use the included Magnetic Sticker to ensure optimal performance.
Can the USB-C PD port transfer data?
No, the USB-C PD port does not support data transfer.
During charging, it prioritizes stable power delivery to the mainboard, allocating 5W each to the smartphone and mainboard. The remaining 10W is intelligently distributed among the cooling system, battery charging, and the fill light.
Can the MagCool OmniGrip charge my phone?
The MagCool OmniGrip's built-in battery cannot directly charge your phone. However, when connected to an external power source, the external power can charge both your phone and the MagCool OmniGrip simultaneously.
What models of SSDs does MagCool OmniGrip work with?
The MagCool OmniGrip supports 2230, 2240, and 2280 SSDs, with a maximum capacity of 1TB. For optimal performance, we recommend using low-power SSDs.
How long does external storage last?
The duration depends on the SSD capacity. A 1TB SSD can typically store over 160 minutes of 4K@60Hz video.
Why does the MagCool OmniGrip get warm during use?
It’s normal for the handle to warm up to around 59°C (138°F) during extended use, as the built-in M.2 SSD generates some heat while charging and recording.
To maintain optimal comfort and performance, we recommend using a tripod for longer recording sessions or limiting handheld use to 15–20 minutes at a time.
Why is the SSD not recognized when using the MagCool OmniGrip?
For optimal performance, ensure that the SSD is inserted into the MagCool OmniGrip before connecting it to your phone. Connecting the phone first may result in the SSD not being detected.
Additionally, please check the following:
1.Ensure the SSD is fully inserted and securely connected, with no loose connections or obstructions.
2.Verify that your phone supports external SSD storage and that the SSD is formatted with a compatible file system (e.g., exFAT or NTFS).
3.If you are using an iPhone, note that it may not provide enough power for certain SSDs. In this case, we recommend connecting an external power source to the MagCool OmniGrip’s USB-C PD port.
4.Follow these steps: disconnect the MagCool OmniGrip from your phone, insert the SSD, then reconnect it to your phone and wait a few seconds for the system to recognize it.
5.Consider using a low-power SSD, such as the 2230 model, for better compatibility.
6.Test the SSD with another device, such as a computer, to confirm that the SSD itself is functioning properly.

When I try to use the SSD with my iPhone, it doesn't work unless I connect a power cable. It won't let me access the storage without the additional power connection.
This is not an issue with the MagCool OmniGrip itself. iPhones have a maximum power output of 4.5W, which can only support SSDs below this power requirement. If your SSD requires more than 4.5W, your iPhone won't be able to properly power the MagCool OmniGrip. We recommend replacing your SSD with a lower-power model to resolve this issue.
Why does electrical noise occur when plugging in or unplugging 3.5mm audio interfaces?
A brief electrical noise during the connection or disconnection of 3.5mm audio devices is normal and not indicative of a problem. To ensure optimal recording quality, we recommend connecting your headphones or microphone before starting the recording.
What type of microphone is recommended for recording?
It is recommended to use a highly directional microphone with features such as low-cut filters to ensure better sound quality and minimize background noise.
What happens if I unplug the power source while recording?
If you unplug the power while recording and charging simultaneously, the SSD will disconnect. To avoid this, ensure the power source remains stable throughout the recording process and only unplug it after recording has been completed.
